Moira Burke
Moira Burke is drawn to subjects that trigger an emotion, a sense of place or a memory. Primarily an oil painter, she enjoys both plein air and studio work, and is always seeking to capture the atmosphere of a moment. Water - the sea, lakes, marshes and rivers - is an abiding inspiration and presence in many of her works.
Moira’s first mentor in art was her mother Betty Burke, who continued to paint into her 93rd year and who introduced Moira to oil paints during her “first” career as a chartered professional accountant. The challenge and joy of art for Moira is in the process and the opportunity to never stop learning. She is energized by exploring the same subject through varying possibilities of colour, tone, medium and approach.
In addition to her field painting, Moira works from Studio III in The Factory, a large and light-filled studio shared with fellow artists Catherine Eichstedt and Ingrid Connidis. She is a member of and exhibits regularly in shows for the Gallery Painting Group of London and the Lambeth Art Association and has been a participating artist in the London Artists’ Studio Tour and Paint Ontario.
