Len Hughes

Len has been a member of the Gallery Painting Group since 1999 and paints primarily in watercolour.  He particularly loves the transparency, fluidity, speed and convenience of the medium and often uses it in rich applications to exploit the vibrancy and capabilities of the medium.

He has been especially influenced by the British artist, J. M. W. Turner, as well as the late Brampton watercolourist, Jack Reid.

His philosophy towards painting is modelled on that of Sir Winston Churchill, an accomplished artist in his own right, who said; "contentment is a joyride in a paint-box for which audacity is the only ticket."

Painting and sketching buildings, street scenes with people, or just people, are of particular interest to him.  His preference is to paint or sketch on location to fully experience the scene before him.

Len has exhibited and sold his work at various solo and group exhibitions and in galleries in the London, Ontario region, and at the McMichael Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario, where he has received various awards for his work.  He is also a member of the Brush and Palette Club of London and an Associate member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC).  As well, Len is a member of the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA) and the London chapter of Urban Sketchers International.  He is available for commissions.
